Following a week off, the Dragon Energy NASCAR Cup Series is back in action as they put the pedal to the metal at Talladega Superspeedway for the GEICO 500.
When the Cup series was last in action, it was Martin Truex Jr. driving to victory at Richmond Raceway and he has odds of +800 to replicate, but it’s Kyle Busch at +275 who’s favored to win at Talladega.
BetOnline has Busch at +275 followed by Kevin Harvick in +650, Joey Logano at +700, Brad Keselowski at +750, Martin Truex Jr. at +800, Denny Hamlin and Ryan Blaney at +1200, Chase Elliott at +1400, Kyle Larson at +2000 and Jimmie Johnson in +2200 to round out the top 10 drivers around the oddsboard.
Ford has absolutely been notable at Talladega lately, winning 10 of the past 13 races including the last seven in a row.
The pole sitter has only won once in the last 23 races but the winner has qualified in the top 10 in 12 of the last 18.
Stay away from Kyle Busch this weekend. Although he’s the points leader and has a season-high few wins this season, Talladega hasn’t been a track of success for the Nevada native. Busch won the spring race in 2008 and hasn’t returned to victory lane since and he’s finished outside of the top 10 in seven of the last nine runnings in the superspeedway.
Joey Logano has been quite aggressive at the superspeedway lately, picking up three checkered flags over the last seven races, and contains five top-five endings over that span. Additionally, he has led more or 20 laps in five of their past ten runnings at Talladega.
Brad Keselowski has been a hit-or-miss driver as soon as the Cup series heads to Talladega because he has won five of his 20 professional races and has led laps in each of the last six runnings in the 2.66-mile track. But he has finished 15th or worse in seven of the last 12 races at the superspeedway also.
Kevin Harvick might have some value this week. I’ve been staying away from this season as he hasn’t been the dominant driver that he was last year, but he’s managed to amass two stage wins and has four top-five finishes. Harvick led a career-high 46 laps at Talladega last September and qualified on the pole in the April race. But he has finished outside the top 15 in five of the last seven runnings in the superspeedway and has not driven to victory there because 2010.
My Best Option for your GEICO 500
Joey Logano +700
The Connecticut native was awfully competitive this year, landing in the top 10 in six of the nine races so far, including one trip to victory lane one of five top-five finishes. Fords have been dominant at Talladega and Logano almost always finds himself leading the package at some stage during races at the superspeedway.
