Max Verstappen believes its 50/50 if Red Bull and Honda will mount an assault on the world championships of F1 in 2020.
The Dutchman is the winner of eight grands prix and already established among the greatest names in F1 at age 22 but former champions Red Bull have generated the winners of races rather than name challengers because the dawn of this Mercedes-dominated hybrid in 2014.
But with Verstappen claiming his original F1 pole-victory double last time out in Brazil completing his season with Honda motors strongly, has raised expectations about the danger year may be carried by Red Bull.
And Verstappen is sure that the team may take that momentum.
We learned a lot throughout the whole year, Verstappen told Sky Sports News at a Red Bull camel inaugural event ahead of the weekend season-closing Abu Dhabi GP. What went well and what we did or did not do this well.
We will attempt to operate within the winter naturally to try and make it all better, the entire package. You are able to see throughout the years end now [Red Bull have been strong], of course in general we have always been like that, but I really have a great deal of confidence that it is not only now.
I believe we could transform that into an early beginning next year. That is at the goal.
Asked if this will therefore indicate a 2020 title challenge, Verstappen replied:Thats what we are going for.
You never know, so it is 50-50. It is yes or no
Verstappens remarkable victory at Interlagos a fortnight ago – that the Dutchman imputed to aquite ballsy strategy call from the pit wall and speedy pit stops, among which had been the quickest-ever at F1 – represented his and the teams third of the year.
Already during the last few races we were actually improving, so naturally very pleased, said Verstappen.
Now one more race to go so well try to have a good weekend and try to finish it off with good feelings going into the winter .
Verstappen is in line to secure his greatest F1 championship finish of third in this Sundays Abu Dhabi race. The Dutchman leads Ferraris Charles Leclerc by 11 points.
