Wimbledon chief executive Richard Lewis to step down next year

The chief executive of Wimbledon, Richard Lewis, says he’ll step down after the next year’s Championships.
Lewis will leave after eight years in the role and his death coincides with the handover of the part of Wimbledon chairman from Philip Brook into Ian Hewitt.
Under Lewis there was a 160 per cent increase in participant prize cash, Court No. 1 had been rebuilt and the grass-court period was extended.
The former British Davis Cup participant said in an announcement on Wimbledon’s website:”It has been a huge privilege to become chief executive of the club and also to play a part in the continued evolution of this club and The Championships.
“Given the election of a new chairman at Ian Hewitt, along with the development of the following master program for the entire breadth of those grounds, it is the perfect time for me to measure ”
Brook states the 64-year-old has delivered”a extraordinary period of modification that will be recognised in our history”.
Lewis joined the All England Club as chief executive in 2012, having been executive chairman of chair of Sport England and the Rugby Football League as 2002 because 2009.
